What is the best treatment for rosacea?

metrogel is the newer product.

I tried it,

but have found the earler version of the same product,

Metrocream,

works better for me.

Metrogel dried out my skin too much.

Check out back issues of the magazine Vegetarian Times:

in one issue they had a natural remedy for it,

using spices.

I can't vouch for it,

but keep telling myself to search it out

and give a shot to see if it works.

No doubt cheaper than any medication,

and possibly better for you.

ive had rosacea for as long as i can remember and it only seems to be getting worse. i recently tried some of the zenmed products, but really didn't get very good results. ive read articles about all the triggers for rosacea, but it's kinda difficult to avoid alot of these things, but if anyone has any good treatments or whatever give me some feedbackWhat is the best treatment for rosacea?
I don't think that rosacea triggers are too difficult to avoid. There is no miracle cream for rosacea. It's all about yourself. If you need to know more, you may check this article:

you know what, a doctor once told me that i could have rosacea, on my face, because it will turn red and itchy on my cheeks and around the nose. but she never gave me a medication prescription because she was a psychiatrist. Other doctors just say that i have seborrheic dermititis but it never heals completely. they say that there is no cure for that, it sucks because im really white.

    Rosacea Treatments?

I've been diagnosed with Rosacea (I'm a 17yo female). I was given Prascion Cleanser (for redness), Oracea pill (for pimples and some help with redness), and Clindamycin 1% lotion (for pimples and some help with redness).

I'm pretty confident that these products will get rid of the pimples in time. I also think they'll help the mild constant redness I've been experiencing, but I think I may need something for the rest of the redness and the annoying flushing I experience when I get hot.

What products have you used for Rosacea? What worked for you? What didn't work for you? Thanks.Rosacea Treatments?
The treatments you have been put on should greatly reduce the symptoms you are experiencing. People respond differently to medications. If the ones you were put on do not give you prompt relief, there are alternatives that can be used. It is very good that you doctor is using a double-pronged attack by using the usual topical treatments combined with an oral antibiotic which tends to work faster.

If you continue to have the flushing experiences, your doctor can give you a medication that has proved effective at helping women going through menopause. The duration of your treatment depends on the type and severity of your symptoms, but typically you'll notice an improvement within one to two months. Because symptoms may recur if you stop taking medications, long-term regular treatment is often necessary.

I have included a link to a great Mayo Clinic article about this condition. I suggest you read it for more information. Some excerpts are shown below. Good luck.

    Treatment

Although there's no way to eliminate rosacea, effective treatment can relieve its signs and symptoms. Most often this requires a combination of prescription treatments and certain self-care measures on your part.

Your doctor also may recommend certain moisturizers, soaps, sunscreens and other products to improve the health of your skin. If hot flashes appear to trigger your rosacea, you might ask your doctor what treatment options are available for the signs and symptoms of menopause.

    Medications

Doctors often prescribe topical antibiotics to treat rosacea, more for their anti-inflammatory properties than to kill bacteria. A common topical antibiotic prescribed is metronidazole (Metrocream, Metrogel, Noritate). Another prescription medication is azelaic acid (Azelex, Finacea), which reduces redness and inflammation.

Oral antibiotics also are prescribed because they tend to work faster than topical ones. In many cases, dermatologists first prescribe both oral and topical antibiotics to lessen signs and symptoms, followed by long-term use of a topical antibiotic alone to maintain remission. Some of the most common prescription oral antibiotics include tetracycline, minocycline, doxycycline and erythromycin.

    Self-care

One of the most important things you can do is to minimize your exposure to anything that causes a flare-up. Because everyone is different, find out what factors affect you so that you can avoid them. Keeping a running list of your own flare-up triggers might help you identify the things that are a problem for you.

Here are other suggestions for preventing flare-ups:

Wear sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher to protect your face from the sun.

Protect your face in the winter with a scarf or ski mask.

Avoid irritating your facial skin by rubbing or touching it too much.

Avoid facial products that contain alcohol or other skin irritants.

When using moisturizer with a topical medication, apply the moisturizer after the medication has dried.

Use products that are labeled noncomedogenic. These won't clog your oil and sweat gland openings (pores) as much.

    Avoid overheating.

If you wear makeup, consider using green- or yellow-tinted pre-foundation creams and powders, because they're designed to counter skin redness.

    Avoid alcohol.Rosacea Treatments?
There are so much more medicines available than when I was having problems with Rosacea! The only I used was cortizone type prescription meds, which worked great, but I wouldn't want you to put the steroids in your body is you didn't have to. Now this, I don't recommend to you at this point, but it might be something to look forward to later in life. My Rosacea totally went away with pregnancy.

Does accutane help in the treatment of rosacea??

    Well, yes and no.

Yes, because it treats several skin problems: Acne, Rosacea, Uneven Coloring otherwise...

No, because the stuff has a tendency to make the body toxic against its-self. I used it for several months while I was on a ninety day commitment in a mental hospital-- which turned out to be more like six months-- and it DID help with the Rosacea. The problem was I had to be on a very strict diet, which I cannot remember exactly, but it was low sodium, and I had to have blood tests done frequently to make sure it wasn't doing me more harm than good. The othe part that sucked of it was, once I stopped taking the accutane (upon my release from the mental hospital), the Rosacea came back stronger than ever.

I guess I'll wish you better luck than I had with it. I'll keep trying new stuff and giving opinions on it once I form them, if you're interested in hearing them. Accutane is an extreme skin irritant for me for about a month, before it started feeling more natural. Try to keep your skin moisturized to keep it healthy and to prevent it from coming off layers at a time. Don't over exert your skin, 'cause I heard a story about one guy whose skin tore because it lost its elasticity, but that's all it was, a story. I don't know if there's truth behind it. At any rate, good luck.Does accutane help in the treatment of rosacea??
It can, but it is typically reserved for cases of rosacea that have not responded to other forms of treatment in patients that have oily skin. Low doses (perhaps 10mg) have been prescribed for rosacea by some dermatologists when other prescriptions like Finacea, Plexion, and oral antibiotics are not providing satisfactory results. Because rosacea is now understood to be an inflammatory skin disorder, Accutane can provide relief because it has anti-inflammatory properties -- however, it does tend to help only in those patients who also have oily skin.

Accutane is more commonly considered in rosacea patients where there is also sebaceous hyperplasia (where oil glands rise to the surface of the skin) or where rhinophyma (disfigurement of the nose) is a potential concern. This is what's called an ';off-label'; use of the drug, but it is a valid use of Accutane.Does accutane help in the treatment of rosacea??
    No only acne
Accutane works on overly active oil glands. Rosacea is not the same condition.

    Rosacea treatment by doctor?

Can you be diagnosed and given medication for rosacea by a regular doctor if your health insurance doesn't cover dermatologists?Rosacea treatment by doctor?
Yes -- request Finacea. In some medical studies, it has been proven to be more effective than MetroGel/MetroCream (one of the more commonly-prescribed medications) which many patients find unsatisfactory. If you also have acne along with your rosacea, a prescription wash called Plexion can be very helpful. Plexion wash is helpful for both acne and rosacea. Oral doxycycline (100mg 2x/day) is also helpful for rosacea (and for acne). Rosacea treatment by doctor?
Yes. I'm sure your primary care physician will be able to prescribe you some of the more common treatments for Rosacea . I bet if you brought in some info on other medications s/he would be will to give those a try too since most Rosacea treatments aren't to tricky to treat with.

Please refrain from any intake of anitbiotics if possible. Long term exposure to the sun is also not a good thing. Below are a couple of articles I found that you might find interesting.
    What is rosacea?

Rosacea (say ';rose-ay-shah';) is a disease that affects the skin on the face. It often begins as redness that looks like a blush across the nose, cheeks, chin or forehead. As time goes on, red pimples and pus-filled bumps may appear. Some people also notice small blood vessels across their nose and cheeks. In some people, the skin of the nose may become red and thick. This is called rhinophyma (say ';rye-no-fie-muh';). Rosacea can also affect the eyes. It may irritate and inflame the eyelids and the white part of the eye. This is called conjunctivitis.

What causes rosacea and who gets it?

No one knows the cause of rosacea. There may not be just one cause. Rosacea tends to run in fair-skinned families and tends to occur in people who blush easily. Symptoms usually begin in adults between the ages of 30 and 60. Women are more likely to get rosacea on the cheeks and chin, but men are more likely to get rhinophyma. Rosacea tends to be more severe in men.

    Can rosacea be cured?

No, but it can be treated. Rosacea is a condition that lasts for a long period of time. For most people it tends to get better and then get worse (flare up). Rosacea may get worse over time if it is not treated. Treatment is aimed at controlling the symptoms and making your skin look better.

    How is rosacea treated?

The type of medicine your doctor recommends will depend on how your skin looks. Treatment generally works best at improving the pimples and bumps of rosacea. The redness of the skin is harder to treat. Medicines used to treat rosacea include antibiotics, which can be applied to the skin or taken as pills. Your doctor may recommend an oral antibiotic to start with and follow that with an antibiotic gel or cream called metronidazole (one brand name: MetroGel) that you apply to your skin.

It may take up to 2 months of treatment before the skin looks better. As your skin improves, the amount of oral antibiotic you take can often be cut down or stopped. Treatment with the gel may continue. It is hard to know how long you will need treatment for rosacea. Each person's skin is different, and your doctor may want to adjust your treatment.

Surgery may be used to correct rhinophyma. Enlarged blood vessels on your face can sometimes be removed by using a fine electric needle or with laser surgery.

What can I do to help my rosacea get better?

Certain things seem to make rosacea worse. These include sun exposure, hot drinks, alcohol, spicy foods, strenuous exercise, stress, and hot and cold temperatures. If these things make your rosacea worse, you may want to avoid them as much as possible.

Gentle skin care is best, and your doctor may recommend that you use a mild soap and a moisturizer. It is also a good idea to use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher on a regular basis.

I was really impressed by this statement below in understanding rosacea and it's causes:

    ';It has been said that rosacea is more than just a red face. In fact it is a complex system of action and reaction. Rosacea partially results from an overly acidic body and skin. The pH (potential of hydrogen) ranges from 0 to 14 with 7 being neutral. As you rethink your past history, you will notice that all the rosacea triggers come from ';acidic items'; regardless of whether they are foods, drinks, stress, or merely out of breath. We all know that if we hold our breath for 30 seconds or 60 seconds, we will all notice that our face turns pink or red. We all know, but hardly think that the cause is a build up of carbon dioxide which is an ';acidic'; gas and we have a shortage of oxygen. Very similarly, when we exercise for a short period, we have a build up of ';lactic acid';, which is a body waste, which is obviously acidic. Likewise, those with acne need to be very concerned about the build up of acids in our blood stream due to the foods and beverages that we consume. We all know of our triggers such as alcohol, coffee, various medications, etc. which all have a pH below 7.0 or are termed acidic. Our objective therefore should be to balance, buffer or neutralize the acids with alkaline.';

So perhaps rosacea is more a case of achieving the proper balance to control your rosacea.

I have personally found the most success with the treatment protocol explained in the Rosacea-Ltd Treatment system. They believe in the theory of ';First do no harm';. The company also offers a 120-day full refund if for some reason you aren't satisfied with the results using their treatment.

Are there over the counter treatments for Rosacea?

All effective treatments either require a prescription or must be administered by a physician. Over-the-counter medications, especially those for acne can be a hazard; they can irritate the skin of rosacea.

While there is no cure for rosacea and the cause is unknown, medical therapy is available to control or reverse its signs and symptoms.

Rosacea (pronounced ';roh-ZAY-sha';) is a chronic and potentially life-disruptive disorder primarily of the facial skin, often characterized by flare-ups and remissions. Many have observed that it typically begins any time after age 30 as a redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead that may come and go. In some cases, rosacea may also occur on the neck, chest, scalp or ears. Over time, the redness becomes ruddier and more persistent, and visible blood vessels may appear. Left untreated, bumps and pimples often develop, and in severe cases the nose may grow swollen and bumpy from excess tissue. This is the condition, called rhinophyma (pronounced ';rhi-no-FY-muh';), that gave the late comedian W.C. Fields his trademark bulbous nose. In many rosacea patients, the eyes are also affected, feeling irritated and appearing watery or bloodshot.

Various oral and topical medications may be prescribed to treat the bumps, pimples and redness often associated with the disorder. Dermatologists usually prescribe initial treatment with oral antibiotics and topical therapy to bring the condition under immediate control, followed by long-term use of the topical therapy alone to maintain remission.

When appropriate, treatments with lasers, intense pulsed light sources or other medical and surgical devices may be used to remove visible blood vessels, reduce extensive redness or correct disfigurement of the nose. Ocular (eye) rosacea may be treated with oral antibiotics and other therapy.

Treatment involves both oral and topical medicines. Oral antibiotics (such as tetracycline) are commonly prescribed; the dose may be initially high and then be tapered to maintenance levels.

A topical (skin) antibiotic cream such as metronidazole (Metrocream) is useful to reduces the inflammation and the redness. Other topical antibiotic creams include erythomycin and clindamycin (Cleocin).

Short-term topical cortisone (steroid) preparations of the right strength may also be used to reduce local inflammation. Some doctors are trying tretinoin (Retin-A) or isotretoin (Accutane), prescription medications also used for acne, or permethrin (Elimite) cream, which is used for the mites that cause scabies.

Rubbing the face tends to irritate the reddened skin. Some cosmetics and hair sprays may also aggravate redness and swelling.

Facial products such as soap, moisturizers and sunscreens should be free of alcohol or other irritating ingredients. Moisturizers should be applied very gently after any topical medication has dried. When going outdoors, sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher are needed.

See the websites for more info. Be well.

Does anyone have treatment or remedy for facial flushing/redness due to mild rosacea?

I have tried prescriptions and my Derm. told me only thing effective was laser (IPL). $1500 later, I am on my last (6th) treatment and the flushing/redness still exists. I have always had pink skin, just gotten worse now I'm 38. I am fair skin, have occasional pimples, its the redness that bothers me. I use sunscreen and stay out of the sun. Please help.Does anyone have treatment or remedy for facial flushing/redness due to mild rosacea?
IPL is thought to be one of the best options for facial redness due to flushing. Finding the right practitioner can be difficult - especially finding one that has experience in your specific symptoms. It can be expensive for sure. What is your IPL practitioner telling you about the number of treatments that you need ?

You might like to try beta-blockers as an option to reduce the flushing - ask your doctor.Does anyone have treatment or remedy for facial flushing/redness due to mild rosacea?
Wow $1500! I know what its like, my sister went on her 4th treatment and stoped. She used the stuff in the source box below. and a week later it worked 10x better then IPL . I think thats your best bet.
Rub lime juice with honey and salt this will help
I'm using Metrogel (antibiotic gel) on my face twice a day. I have not had a pimple since I started using it and my face does not look as red. I'm not familiar with the IPL. The laser (will find out the name for you) I use gets rid of the little red veins. It's $350.00 to $375.00 for 15 minutes. It gets rid of them immediately. I had it done three years ago and I'm just about to go back in and have it done again. Maybe you should see a different doctor. Not all doctors have the same lasers. $1500 for 6 treatments for mild Rosacea sounds very wrong to me.

    Victoria !

Rosacea affects millions of people, most of whom are over the age of 30. It appears as a red rash which is normally confined to the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. The redness is often accompanied by bumps, pimples, and skin blemishes. Blood vessels may also become more visible on the skin. Blackheads are not a part of rosacea. It is more prevalent in women, but often more severe when found in men. Left untreated, it can cause swelling of the nose and the growth of excess tissue, a condition called rhinophyma. Treatment is often different for rosacea than for acne, and it is important that you consult a doctor can determine if what you are experiencing is acne vulgaris or rosacea.I think i have Rosacea. What is it, What is it caused by? Treatment?
Rosacea often flares when something causes the blood vessels in the face to expand, which causes redness. Things that cause a flare-up are called triggers. Common triggers are exercise, sun and wind exposure, hot weather, stress, spicy foods, alcohol, and hot baths. Swings in temperature from hot to cold or cold to hot can also cause a flare-up of rosacea.

Here is the answer to clear any skin issue.

    Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman N.D. - ';Your skin is a reflection of how well your body is eliminating the toxins that build up on a daily basis. Chronic skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis stem from a combination of genetic factors, immune stress, dietary deficiencies or sensitivities, and the accumulation of toxins in the body. For our skin to be radiant and clear, it is very important that the other organs of elimination (kidneys, liver, lungs, and colon) are cleansing the body effectively. If not, the skin will be overtaxed, pores will become clogged, and eruptions of one sort or another will result. Here are a number of steps you can take to improve your body's overall elimination wtih specific emphasis on your skin.';

Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin. Fasting is the world's most ancient and natural healing mechanism. Fasting triggers a truly wondrous cleansing process that reaches right down to each and every cell and tissue in the body.

    Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman N.D. - ';Diet and nutritional supplements: Regular consumption of plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, in whole form or juiced, along with legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, and little or no refined, overprocessed foods, fat, sugar, and caffeine will help your skin to stay young and healthy. Pay attention, particularly in the case of hives and rashes, to any foods to which you may be oversensitive. The nutritional supplements that are most of benefit to the skin are Vitamin A (we recommend it in the form of Beta carotene, which is non-toxic, since prolonged use of over 50,000 I.U. of Vitamin A can result in hair loss, skin dryness, and other symptoms of toxicity), Zinc, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C. We suggest these in combination with a mega multi vitamin and mineral containing 25-50 mg of the B vitamins but use higher amount with some skin conditions. Essential fatty acids such as linoleic and linolenic acid are necessary to keep the skin soft and pliable. PABA, often found in sun tan products, helps prevent against damage from the sun's ultraviolet rays.';

Man's body is a living organism, made of living cells, which require living food in order to be properly nourished and function well. When we put cooked food into our body, loaded with contaminants, the body starts to break down. It begins in the very young with colic, rashes, colds, earaches, upset stomachs, swollen glands and tonsils. As the child grows older, their may be tooth decay, pimples, the need for eye glasses, etc. Then as we enter adult life there is arthritis, hypoglycemia, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and cancers. All this and a multitude of other diseases are unnecessary and are nothing but the result of improper diet and lifestyle! Today, most people accept cooked food as the normal means of supplying the body with nutrients, not realizing that the living cells of our bodies do not take nourishment from the dead and artificial ingredients found in cooked food. And so, after a typical meal of cooked meat, cooked potatoes, a cooked vegetable and a piece of cooked bread, followed by a cooked sugar desert, their stomach is full and they think they have satisfied the nutritional needs of their body. In reality, they have given their body practically no nourishment. And thus with a full stomach, they are slowly starving their body's cells.

The fastest way to restore wellness is to stop putting into the body the things that have caused the physical problem to develop in the first place, and then give the body the nutrients it needs to repair and rebuild itself. I don't know of any natural treatments, but you do need to know to stay away from caffeine and drinking alcohol. They really make it worse. I have a mild case of it and those two make mine ';flare up';.Are there any natural treatments for rosacea?
I had a bad case of that. It can not only get worse it can cause your nose to grow into a bulbous mass. Look at W%26gt;C%26gt;Fields nose, as an example! Go to a good derm and he will put you on anti-biotics for a while and you will have to put Metro-Gel on at night. The Metro-Gel is the key in controlling it and is standard treatment. I use Eucerine Redness Relief foam moisturizer which has a green tint to counteract the red look. It contains licorice root which soothes the skin. Get on Eucerines site for a free sample of the entire line of Redness Relief products. My skin is beautiful now. And when this first started I couldn't stay in the sun for any length of time and now I can. I can now drink caffine with no problems as long as I don't drink more than one in an hours time. Drinking them too close makes my skin red.

There is no known cure for rosacea. The goal is to identify and avoid possible triggers, and thus reduce flare-ups. In fact, the National Rosacea Society strongly recommends that you keep a symptom diary to identify the specific triggers you may have. As you keep track of your symptoms, you should start to see a pattern within several weeks of what makes your rosacea worse. Use this information to avoid future flare-ups.

Here are some steps that may help:

Avoid sun exposure. Use sunscreen every day.

Avoid prolonged exertion in hot weather.

Try to reduce stress. Try deep breathing, yoga, or other relaxation techniques.

Limit spicy foods, alcohol, and hot beverages.

Triggers vary from person to person. Other triggers may include wind, hot baths, cold weather, specific skin products, exercise, or other factors.

Rosacea is not medically dangerous. It is not curable, but can usually be controlled with treatment. It may be persistent and chronic.

all that being said..I would suggest using those herbs in a hot water diffusion minus the essential oils...then when your diffusion (herbal tea) is strained, try using it on the skin...like before you go to bed...also these herbs can be drank in an herbal tea...I wouldnt suggest the green tea though...as it has natural amounts of caffeine in it...and never drink essential oils...you might want to try a teaspoon of the difusion to see how your stomach reacts if you decide to try it...(make sure it's cooled down before applying to skin) ...if they don't irritate your skin then try adding one drop each of the essential oils to the diffusion...(make sure to refrigerate your diffusion after creating it)...I wouldnt suggest using the essential oils listed in your diffusion because they tend to burn a bit...rather fill a sink full of water and add a drop of each into the warm water and splash your face w/ that...if that burns then rinse your face well and try a drop or two in a tub of bathwater...careful w/ essential because they do tend to burn...if not successful w/ the oils then discontinue use....keep your infusion refrigerated for up to a week before diposing of it and making a fresh batch...you can experiment around as well if it proves somewhat sucessful...try mixing a small strong portion of your infusion w/ some facial cream you use...I might suggest some hawaiian tropic tanning lotion...make sure the diffusion liquid is hot when you mix it w/ the lotion as to ensure saturation of the product...mix from about a measuring teaspoon to a tablespoons worth w/ one bottle of lotion...you might need to shake the lotion on each use because the concoction will prolly become separated...if not great :)...now your good to go w/ a bottle of diffused lotion you can take w/ you to work or wherever...keep using the product until you see results...if no results occur...try searching for different herbs for your skin prob until you find the one you need...gl..

Why did my rosacea flare up after laser genesis treatment?

Yesterday morning to went in for my first laser genesis treatment at my dermatologists office. I don't have very bad rosacea but my face does flare up and overall I wanted to improve the quality of my skin and have a move even skin tone, and have the skin not be so blotchy.

The treatment went well, and the redness went down within 2 hours and everything looked alright, but this morning on both cheeks I have little red dots which is what I usually get when I have a rosacea flare up. I put on the metrogel but I am just wondering if this is a common reaction to laser genesis with people who have rosacea.

Is it possible that the laser just stressed out my face and in days to come it will calm down or is this maybe a bad sign? If anyone has any experience or knowledge about this I would appreciate some advice, thanks! Why did my rosacea flare up after laser genesis treatment?
When I had my later treatment I never had the red-dot symptoms that you described. Maybe you should wait a few days; I'm sure it'll all go away.

That said... laser treatment isn't really a long-term treatment, anymore than rosacea is a chronic condition. Post-treatment my face improved for a while, but rosacea was never really cured. It always came back during the summer. You just have to be really careful about the external irritants. You can't always do the laser thing every other summer..Why did my rosacea flare up after laser genesis treatment?
Laser treatment may not be totally effective in Rosaceae. I have seen many recurrences ater Laser.

Rosacea is a condition of the skin often referred to as adult acne (although it shouldn鈥檛 be confused with acne)

that causes red blemishes to form on the nose and cheek area. General redness, broken and enlarged capillaries

often accompany these areas. The cause of the condition is unknown but it is suspected that genetics play a

role. In its mildest form, Rosacea can be difficult to recognize. It almost always affects the nose area with red

blemishes among red patches on the skin. Sometimes, oily skin accompanies Rosacea. Flare-ups of this condition

have been associated with the consumption of alcohol, spicy foods, citrus, hot beverages, tobacco, external heat

and sun exposure. Clients with this condition should be advised to avoid these irritating factors. Menopause may

    also be a factor.

What is the most effective treatment menthod for acne rosacea?

I am seeking treatment for my rosacea/acne. I have light, Celtic skin. My case is moderate and I live near many renown med spas, so I have a lot of options.

So, is blue light therapy, photofacial, microderm or PDT the best treatment option? I have tried oracea and finacea and they help, but I am looking for better results that will last longer.

Please respond only if you are a patient or dermatologist who is familiar with the condition rosacea and the treatment options. Alos, what is a fair price range for treatment? Thanks! What is the most effective treatment menthod for acne rosacea?
PDL (Pulse Dye Laser) is currently considered by most dermatologists to be the most effective light/laser therapy for rosacea. I have tried PDL, and it is very effective. It can be more effective when used with Levulan/Kerastick. ClearLight/BluLight hasn't been as extensively studied for rosacea as PDL; it seems to be more promising for acne. Combining BluLight/ClearLight with PDL seems excessive if you only have rosacea without acne.

Microdermabrasion is not effective at all for rosacea. PhotoFacials (IPL) can be effective for rosacea, but PDL seems to be more effective with fewer treatments, based on current studies.

Instead of Oracea, you might also want to try Nicomide, and you might also want to try Plexion wash (especially if your skin is oily). Rosacea responds best to combination therapy.

I would also NOT go to a medical ';spa';. Go to a dermatologist's office and get a consultation FIRST. You may not receive the appropriate setting on the laser for your skin if you go to a medical spa, and thus not receive maximum benefit. Ask who will be performing the treatment. If it is an ';aesthetician';, go somewhere else. You want to receive the treatment from the doctor, from a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, or an RN or possibly LPN. It's ok to have hair removal or some procedure like that from an aesthetician -- but I wouldn't trust your face during a procedure that could actually cause permanent discoloration and hyperpigmentation to one. An average treatment should cost $300 to $500, depending on the part of the country where you live, possibly more. What is the most effective treatment menthod for acne rosacea?
I had rosacea a few years ago and was treated with antibiotics. The rosacea eventually subsided.

I do know of someone who uses an over-the-counter product (wash, oil and lotion) to treat the symptoms. If you're interested in trying something less invasive that you've listed above, I can give you more information on the product.

Treatment for adult onset acne (Rosacea)?

I've battled rosacea for years and my dr put me on Metrogel, which seemed to just make my face worse.

He changed me to 100mg tetracycline once a day about a month ago. My face is completely clear, however I have a couple of questions for those that might know:

    1. My face has a ruddy kind of look to it. Anyone else on this treatment experienced this?

    2. I just feel kind of tired and slightly crappy all the time since he put me on it. Is that normal?

I hate to change because this has been the first thing that has worked, but am worried about side effects from long term use. Anybody else on this treatment?Treatment for adult onset acne (Rosacea)?

I do not know of anyting else. sorryTreatment for adult onset acne (Rosacea)?
I've had adult acne for yrs %26amp; now I'm getting rosacea, w/ enlarged nose swelling-- that is just supposed to occur in men according to my book, but I'm female, probably too much male hormones in my body? I give up on what's not worked %26amp; am trying all the vitamins I don't get because of the junk I eat/stress etc. Here's what I've just researched %26amp; been reading. A book called ';Prescription for Nutritional Healing.'; It's huge %26amp; there's a newer version out $20-30 in stores or try amazon.com %26amp; half.ebay.com -- may be cheaper. Probably, the best 1st thing is a cleanse all Vitamin stores %26amp; Walmart has them. Just think of all the chemicals from processed foods %26amp; antibiotics we put in. See, antibiotics kill good %26amp; bad bacteria in our body. It makes sense to clean out 1st. You will go to the bathroom more, but I'm not talkin uncontrollably. Take a Vit B Complex (that has all the different B's you need), Vit A, VitC, (can give you the runs decrease til you see what your body needs),Vit E, Acidopholus (it's like eating a ton of yogurt %26amp; must be kept in frig), L Lyseine (the book lists L Cysteine, so I'll switch when I run out) (L Lyseine is for cold sores too), Evening Primrose Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Kelp, Gotu Kola (that one'll make you gain weight), Biotin, Potassium, %26amp; Zinc. Most of the multi vit's I've checked unless are from a pharmacy maybe, like The Medicinne Shoppe do not have enough of these to put a dent in my face, no pun intended! And, I'm sick of it, this is a battle I now intend to win. I can't stand looking in the mirror! I know this sounds like a lot but Puritans Pride has a catalog that's cheap, 1st time buyers get a reduced prices, s/h is $4.50 never increases, B1G2 etc, sales often, %26amp; they have Vitamin World stores in Malls. Follow the doses on the bottle. Except, the Gotu Kola supplement was listed in ';First'; mag %26amp; says they've now found up to 3,000 mg a day will repair skin quickly. So, I take 3- 250 mg pills 3X a day, when results are reached drop to 250-500. The Biotin my friend says her relative works in the med field %26amp; says Biotin also repairs. I've only been faithfully doing this for 1 wk, knock on wood I woke up today %26amp; my skin seems brighter %26amp; clearer. I'm taking other things too, for poison ivy pms etc. Most of what I've listed are all the same supplements listed under: Rosacea, Oily sin %26amp; Acne. Also, the Vit B will give you energy, I'm taking a time release form. Check w/ your md 1st if possible.

Email me anytime if you want. P S Just skimmed your answers it's true the book says acne/ rosacea is a way for your body telling you somethings wrong on the inside.
If it works for you, I'm very happy. I never used what you had prescribed. Maybe you're right, you shouldn't change the treatment after all this time when you finally found something that really works for you.

Try cutting wheat out of your diet. and milk.

They are two foods that can really mess up peoples systems, and there are a few skin problems out there where these trigger outbreaks.

good luck!Any good non-prescription Rosacea treatments out there?
Unfortunately, no. I went to a dermatologist and she said that the only thing that will get rid of rosacea is laser surgery.

Are photofacials(ipl) treatments really good for rosacea?

I have had 2 very expensive treatments and I dont see a big differance. I was told 3 treatments would do it but I dont think so. I am wondering if they set the laser on lower settings so you have to come back more so they can make more money? Are photofacials(ipl) treatments really good for rosacea?
Yes, IPL can treat rosacea -- but it doesn't cure it. Rosacea is a chronic, progressive condition that can be controlled -- but not cured. DPL (dye-pulsed laser) can be more effective than IPL. Both of these treatments work much better in people with very fair, light skin than in people with darker complexions. If you have a dark complexion, these treatments would be a waste of time. DPL is probably more effective with fewer treatments, so it is probably more cost effective than IPL. You need, generally, at least five IPL treatments for good results. One or two DPL treatments can show results for rosacea.

If you are going to a ';medi-spa'; instead of seeing a dermatologist for your IPL treatments, you may not be receiving treatment from someone adequately trained to perform the procedure.

Best acne treatment if you have rosacea??

Hello! I need help!!! I have both rosacea AND acne. I have been told my whole life NOT to use any products with salicylic acid becuz it makes the rosacea even worse. Which does seem to be true. But, i think that the salicylic acid is the best thing to treat zits. So i need an alternative. my whole face is covered in little tiny bumps and then a few actual zits.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE BEST WAY TO TREAT ACNE/ZITS IF YOU HAVE ROSACEA????

this is super depressing for me. i also don't have insurance so i can't go to a doctor. and don't suggest proactive--becuz that burns my face off!!!!Best acne treatment if you have rosacea??
    Use Benzoyl Peroxide.

    http://www.doctorgoodskin.com/pd/benzoylperoxide/

    Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is commonly used for treatment of acne. It is available in many forms such as soap bars, washing lotions, creams, gels, etc. It is available both - OTC and on prescription.

    * Benzoyl Peroxide Removes excess oil,

    * Unclogs the closed pores, and

    * Kills the bacteria.

    * You should consult with your doctor If you have eczema, or raw skin because of sunburn, etc. Benzoyl Peroxide may cause irritation if used on such skin.

    * If you are pregnant or breast-feeding. No studies have been done about absorption of benzoyl peroxide in the pregnancy or in the mothers milk. Let your doctor decide.

    * If you want to use benzoyl peroxide on a child or a very old person.

    * If you are using other topical that may peel or irritate the skin on the same place, where you plan to use benzoyl peroxide.

    * If you are allergic to any dyes, preservatives, etc.

    Side-Effects:

Benzoyl Peroxide may irritate the skin and acne may flare up after you begin the use. These will go away slowly. If the irritation persists, inform your doctor.

If benzoyl peroxide produces side-effects such as skin warmth, blisters, excess peeling, etc., inform your doctor.

    For rosacea treatment-

    http://www.doctorgoodskin.com/ds/rosacea/treatment.php

    Treatment Of Rosacea

Rosacea should not be treated with self-medication. You must consult a doctor. If left unchecked, rosacea can develop serious eye problems and veins like spider veins in patients of both the sexes. It can also lead to disfigured nose in men. If you think that rosacea will get well itself, you may be wrong. It may become worse. Consult a doctor and get it diagnosed and treated at as early stage as possible. Treatment of rosacea at an early stage may stop its growth.

The red discoloration of rosacea offers a challenge in its treatment. For that, doctors use anti-inflammatory topicals. If you have visible blood vessels, they can be destroyed with a very tiny fine needle using electric current. Laser is used successfully in treating the redness and the visible blood vessels. Your doctor will tell you more about the types of lasers that can be used for your treatment. The growth on male noses can be treated with laser, surgery or dermabrasion.

For treatment of the papules and pustules, doctors use topical medication that may include benzoyl peroxide, topical antibiotics, azelaic acid, metronidazole, etc. If you have more infection, you may be prescribed oral antibiotics. Superficial glycolic chemical peeling may be used to remove the superficial damage on the skin. Sometimes doctors prescribe isotretinoin in severe cases, but it is normally avoided. If you have eye problems, your doctor will use antibiotics to clear them.

Consult your doctor as soon as you notice the initial flushing or blushing. That will help you prevent the progress of rosacea.Best acne treatment if you have rosacea??
Best stuff I've ever come across and I have tried everything over the years including several different dermo's prescriptions http://www.rosacea-remedy.com The intensive treatment oil worked real quick at repairing my skin damage and now I just use the daily moisturiser. Report Abuse

The thing to do is get on antibiotic therapy as this will control the acne and the Rosacea. Do not use ANY over the counter acne products as they will make the Rosacea worse. You need antibiotic therapy so see a doc and get a script for this. You mentioned no insurance but if you put all the money that you have already spent on acne products that you should not be using I'll bet that would cover one visit to your regular docs office to get a script. Also depending on how well your doc knows you he may order the antibiotics for you if you just call him and tell him your Rosacea is really acting up and you would like to try antibitotic therapy for it.
my doctor gave me metro gel,but when i did some research on the metro gel i learned thats it's not for acne it's for rosacea.but it works for me.you can use your normal face cleaner and still use the medication without worry whats gonna happen to your face.the only bad thing about metro gel is that it dries out your skin so i use ceptophil before applying the medication.other than that i would recommend this stuff to anybody.

Anyone know any natural treatments for rosacea?

I really don't want to go to a dermatologist...Anyone know any natural treatments for rosacea?
Well, one of the best treatments for rosacea is Finacea (15% azelaic acid), which is actually derived from wheat, so it's a ';natural'; treatment. However, it is a prescription cream, so you have to see a doctor to obtain it. There's also a prescription wash called Plexion, which contains sulfur (also natural, of course), but you also have to see a doctor to obtain the order for it. Nicomide is an oral medication also good for rosacea (which I will discuss further below).

The problem with what most people consider as ';natural treatments'; for any condition or illness is that the amount found in food, over-the-counter products, or ';organic'; alternatives is that they don't contain enough of the therapeutic substance to actually have a clinically-significant effect. Big pharmaceutical companies definitely have their problems, and the FDA has been (for the past 20 years or so) far too too generous with many drug approvals because presidential administrations have allowed them to be far to in-bed with big corporations -- however, the entire industry is not bad, and there are good medicines out there.

In addition to Finacea and Plexion, I would also recommend Nicomide -- it's an oral medication which has been studied to be just as effective as antibiotics for mild acne and rosacea. It's an anti-inflammatory medication made from B-vitamins, copper, and zinc. However, merely taking a multi-vitamin won't give you the same results. Nicomide has prepared with a precise dosage and release-control to obtain the desired anti-inflammatory effects.

So, your best option is to still see a dermatologist. However, if one prescribes MetroGel (a topical antibiotic) for you. You should politely ask that you would prefer Finacea, based on what you have read that it has better results than MetroGel. (Bacteria are not the cause of rosacea, and MetroGel is just an antibiotic gel.)

I have rosacea, and these treatments work well for me -- but nothing over-the-counter effectively treats rosacea. Good luck!

Do you suggest any good rosacea treatments for my cheeks?

nothing expensive. im 14 years oldDo you suggest any good rosacea treatments for my cheeks?
    I have the same thing.

I use a topical called prascion. it reduces all redness and all effects of rosacea.

But you have o get a prescribed by a dermatologist.

good luck!Do you suggest any good rosacea treatments for my cheeks?
Anything that gets rid of dry skin. Also you may have hard water in your house. Change the salt or get a water softener.
I work for a dermatologist! You want to remember to stay away from the sun! It makes it worse above anything else. Things that make you flush like spicy foods, alcohol, etc can worsen rosacea. There are facial lotions out there that are supposed to help reduce redness, one that we suggest in our office is aveeno ultra calming. It also has a sunscreen in it! Also, if these do not help see your dermatologist there is a prescription called metrogel that is the most common and effective treatment for rosacea.

Rosacea Skin, Adult Acne, Symptoms, Diet & Treatment?

Trying demodex folliculorum shampoo, seabuckhorn oil and meds for rosacea scar treatment. Is avobenzone sunscreen, cleansers, even ayurveda any use?Rosacea Skin, Adult Acne, Symptoms, Diet %26amp; Treatment?
Rosacea is a very common skin condition that causes redness, swelling and acne like bumps mostly on the face, though this skin disorder can also effect the scalp, neck, ears, chest and back - sometimes even the eyes.

More often than not, people mistakenly attribute their awful looking complexions to adult acne, when in fact rosacea is the cause. Today over 14 million Americans, and more than 45 million people worldwide suffer and struggle with silent symptoms.

Some of the suspected causes of Rosacea include:

    1. a combination of heredity and environment

    2. an immune system disorder

    3. a more generalized vascular disease, where rosacea is a subcomponent of the other condition (those with rosacea do flush easily)

    4. an infection of the stomach caused by H pylori bacteria.

Doctors do know that rosacea often passes down through generations. Other key risk factors include:

    5. Being fair skinned

    6. Being of northern European or Celtic origin (although rosacea has been observed in African American's and others with highly pigmented skin tones)

    7. Being female

Probably the most confusing (not to mention costly) part of managing your rosacea is finding the right products. Cleansers. Sunscreens. Moisturizers. They'll all become a part of your skin care routine. There's also some great makeup and concealers you can use to cover up your symptoms during flare ups, without making things worse. Your doctor might talk with you about topical and oral medications, as well as some of the state-of-the-art treatments like laser therapy, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion or cosmetic procedures that can help.

All the best medical help in the world isn't enough if you aren't willing to do your part as well. Avoiding the triggers (once you know what they are) is key. Eating right, and sensible supplementing (with your doctor's okay of course) also can make a world of difference in how you look. You can have that healthy, glowing complexion you've always wanted, so long as you're willing to make sincere lifestyle changes to help keep your symptoms under control.

Once you know for sure what you're dealing with, you can take steps right away to make things better.

    Hi Em,

Here is some information on Aloe Vera and Tea Tree, a natural remedy, which may be of some help to you.

The watery gel from Aloe Vera plant is a highly effective natural cure against Acne. The enzyme-rich gel has very soothing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It can also be taken internally and helps clean up and detox the digestive tract. This in turn can help clear up the skin.

Gel or juice of Aloe Vera is highly useful in fading of acne scars. You can grow Aloe Vera plant in your home and apply freshly taken pure Aloe Vera gel to your scar. Otherwise many branded cosmetic companies manufactures pure Aloe Vera gel, so you can choose the best cosmetic companies to get Aloe Vera gel.

Vitamin A is also a natural and effective Acne cure. Vitamin A promotes healthy skin.

Vitamin E also helps in countering Acne. It is a natural antioxidant and beneficial for the skin.

Oil is obtained from the Melaleuca alternifoliais tree from Australia. It is very effective against Acne as it contains bacteria-fighting substances called Terpenes. Acne is often caused by bacteria and the Terpenes either outright kill them or weaken them enough to be destroyed by protective antibodies. There are very little side effects from using Tea Tree Oil.

For more information check out the website http://www.trustwilliam.com/en-GB/Ingredients/Aloe-Vera-Trust-William/?term=Aloe+Vera%26amp;extcam=sm . You'll see the ingredients are 99.9% Pure Aloe Vera Gel with 'Vitamins A,C %26amp; E' and with 'Tea Tree'.

how do I treat this at home without seeing a doctorAt home treatment of acne rosacea?
It's not as difficult as you might think. You just need to get to know your skin better. I recommend not eating spicy foods, not using any products that make your face tingle (including lip balms), and using a 1% BHA (salicylic acid). You can read more here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article鈥?/a>At home treatment of acne rosacea?

It helps if you understand that your skin is far more sensitive than the average person's. Learn what triggers it and respect that. Exercise, red wine, hot water, all these are rosacea triggers. Select bland skincare products and stay away from products with many irritating ingredients. Take lukewarm showers rather than steaming your skin with hot water. Antibacterial products will kill off the bacteria that can exacerbate rosacea, as well. Good antibacterial products are raw honey (which can be used as a cleanser in the morning) sulfur (like Prosacea, a popular over-the-counter rosacea product) and tea tree oil.

Need a good treatment for rosacea?

Does anyone have a really good treatment? I have tried a bunch of different things, and nothing seems to work, even the gel that my doctor prescribed. I am also looking for some good makeup to use with my red skin. I was using MAC StudioFix, and it worked pretty good, but it was a little too greasy. I just switched to Clinique compact, which I like but it doesn't provide as good of coverage. My redness shows through the makeup. Clinique just came out with a moisterizer line that's supposed to be really good for redness. Has anyone tried this yet? I'll take any tips I can get for my rosacea problem. I hate it!!Need a good treatment for rosacea?
Well, whether or not you got the best medication for rosacea really depends on what your doctor prescribed. One of the most commonly-prescribed medications, MetroGel, is not the most effective. A different medication, Finacea, has been studied to be more effective than MetroGel. MetroGel is an antibiotic, and bacteria are not the causative agent in rosacea. An over-production of certain inflammatory proteins in the skin are the prime suspects for causing rosacea right now, and Finacea seems to control these much better. (You really see good results after about a two to three weeks of use.) A good wash for rosacea is Plexion (also by prescription only), and a topical medication named Nicomide-T can also be effective, in conjunction with Finacea. Nicomide-T is an anti-inflammatory preparation of B-vitamins, zinc, and copper that is normally for acne but also helps reduce redness and sensitivity.

Not much available over-the-counter is effective for rosacea, unfortunately, but combination therapy (using more than only one prescription medication at a time) usually yields much better results than only one. If you return to your physician and request these other treatments, give them a try, and see how they work for you. (Sources below) They certainly helped me a lot. Good luck!Need a good treatment for rosacea?

Avoid proglonged sun exposure. The number one trigger for most rosacea patients is the sun.

Protect yourself from temperature extremes (indoors and out) and from the wind. These environmental factors can trigger a rosacea flare-up.

Stay away from very spicy foods, hot beverages and alcohol. These often cause facial flushing that can irritate your condition.

Choose skincare products that do not contain ingredients such as salicylic acid or fruit acids. Products designed to ';peel'; the skin often make rosacea symptoms worse.

    Self-care

Exercise for short periods in well-ventilated, cool areas. Many rosacea patients find that exercising for 15 minutes at a time minimizes facial flushing and helps control symptoms.

Wash your face only with mild cleansers such as Cetaphil or Phisoderm Baby Cleanser.

Avoid srubbing the face with any type of loofah or brush. A soft washcloth is O.K. Men should shave with electric razors only, never a blade.

Moisturize with a gentle lotion or cream. Look for products that include comfrey or chamomile to ease the redness.

Wear a sunscreen every day with an SPF of 15 or higher.

    Rosacea with laser treatment?

my dermatologist said that if I get laser treatment done that my capillaries will not dilate as much that they will appear smaller. This happens the third time you get it done and it is $350 per treatment. My question is: after I get my treatments done how ever long it takes for my rosacea not to react or whatever will this cure my rosacea or will it just help clear it for two weeks to a month? Whoever went through this or knows anything on this I need your help please.Rosacea with laser treatment?
I just had this done today! Well, it may be something different, the treatment I had was getting cream on my face, and then having lasers zap the rosacea (and acne in my case). My dermatologist told me it is supposed to last for 12 weeks, so it may be different, does this sound similar to yours? Mine is also only $250 per treatment which is a huge cost difference. For me, it is definitely worth the price if it works because I have wasted hundreds of dollars on treatments that DON'T work, and my dermatologist has had really great success with this treatment. My aunt did this same thing and has the most beautiful skin, which is why I sought it out, as a side note, she also now has baby soft skin which is apparently not always the case, but I'm hoping for that!!

    edit:

my aunt had this done, had to get a few treatments and never had to get it done again, she had rosacea pretty badly, worse than me, and now her skin is perfect and you'd never know she ever had a skin problem. i don't know if this is common, but the only time she ever has a flare up is around her period on her chin which is tiny and i don't think it's related to the rosacea...i think we're all going to have to deal with that until menopause!Rosacea with laser treatment?

Fineacia ( check the spelling ) is to be good, I've had some luck with everything out there, but nothing long term. Report Abuse

Honestly, is there a treatment or cure for rosacea?

There is no real ';cure';. PDL (pulse dye laser) treatments can be very effective if you receive them from a very experienced dermatologist (and not a 'medical spa'). These can provide long-term remission/relief from the flushing, redness, and sensitivity from rosacea. Multiple (about four) treatments are required, and it takes a few days for the skin to recover from each treatment. Given what you have to spend over the years on over-the-counter products, prescription co-pays, and other sensitive-skin items, the cost is not that unreasonable, if you have moderate-to-severe rosacea. (A typical PDL treatment will run you between $300 and $500, depending on what else you have done with it.)

If you have mild-to-moderate rosacea (or to maintain results after a PDL treatment), the best topical treatment is Finacea (15% azelaic acid). This is more effective, in the long term, than topical antibiotic gels/creams, like MetroGel (according to recent studies). Oral antibiotics, like doxycycline and tetracycline, can also help with rosacea. These can be effective for the control of rosacea, but they do not cure it. A cleanser called Plexion is also beneficial for rosacea.

Most over-the-counter treatments are not very beneficial, and they can be very expensive -- especially when the results they provide are only very minor (if recognizable at all). Most acne products do not help with rosacea.Honestly, is there a treatment or cure for rosacea?
People with Rosacea should avoid foods that cause the blood vessels in the skin to dilate (spicy foods, alcohol, coffee and caffienated sodas)

Certain antibiotics improve rosaceo, tetracyclines are usually most effective and produce the fewest side effects.

A person may need surgery for severe cases that don't improve.Honestly, is there a treatment or cure for rosacea?
    YES YES YES!!!!

My sister has this and has used the Metrogel Etc. and had OK results...out of sheer desperation She switched to a product line called ';SOOTHE'; by rodan and fields (I use their Unblemish) and SHE LOVES IT you can REALLY see a visible difference in her skin...she is VERY happy. only down side is it can only be ordered on line! I know people who have been told by their doctor that there is no known ';cure'; for rosacea, but there are several topical treatments that will reduce the redness and rashing that occurs. Dermatologists know best. They will tell you that exposure to the sun is a major no-no, and that stress can add to the inflammation.

    How is rosacea cured?

Rosacea cannot be cured but it can usually be controlled with the proper, regular treatment.

    What about using acne medicine?

Over-the-counter medications for acne can be a hazard; they can irritate the skin of rosacea.

    What is used for rosacea?

    What should be avoided?

Smoking, food (such as spicy food) and drink (such as hot beverages and alcoholic drinks) that can cause flushing should be avoided.

Exposure to sunlight and to extreme hot and cold temperatures should be limited. That will also help relieve symptoms of rosacea.

Potent cortisone medications on the face should be avoided because they can promote widening of the tiny blood vessels of the face.

How should I care for the skin of my face?

Rubbing the face tends to irritate the reddened skin. Some cosmetics and hair sprays may also aggravate redness and swelling.

Facial products such as soap, moisturizers and sunscreens should be free of alcohol or other irritating ingredients. Moisturizers should be applied very gently after any topical medication has dried. When going outdoors, sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher are needed.

It is worth a try and you can get it online at thebodyshop.com
Antibiotics have to used indefinitely and right now, I wash my face with Cetaphil. I've noticed that for me, I have to change my washing products from time to time..it's like the items start bothering the rosacea after awhile.

There is no cure and you really have to be careful that you don't start having trouble with your eyes because of the rosacea..if I try to stop the meds too long, I get stys on my eyelids and it takes a long time to get rid of them!

I wish there were a simple answer to your question; but unfortunately the answers are as varied as the people with this condition!

What is a good treatment for rosacea?

    Rosacea Treatment

    First Steps

If you believe that you may have Rosacea, the first thing to do is to see your dermatologist. Many of the symptoms of Rosacea could be the result of other ailments. As always when dealing with this sort of situation, professional advice should be your first course of action.

If you have been diagnosed with Rosacea you need to know that there is currently no cure. In fact, the cause of Rosacea is still somewhat of a mystery. Having said this however, the good news is that there are many things that can be done to bring the disease under control and minimize the symptoms and also to prevent the disease from progressing further. In general, the treatment is aimed at the control of redness, inflammation, and skin eruptions. Treatment is necessary to prevent permanent damage.

    Forms of Treatments

In most cases, once a diagnosis of Rosacea has been made a dermatologist will prescribed a combination of oral antibiotics and the use of antibiotic gel as initial treatment. The oral antibiotics will bring the condition under control (reducing redness and the formation of papules and pustules), then the topical treatments will be used to keep the symptoms under control. In all cases the dermatologist should help to determine the relevant lifestyle factors which may need modification to keep flushing/blushing from occurring.

Long term use of Oral Antibiotics is not recommended due to a number of side effects which may occur including sun sensitivity and upset stomach.

    A couple of important notes:

    - It may take several weeks or more to see any improvement in the condition

    - Since Rosacea cannot be cured it will often be necessary to continue with topical treatment (and modification of lifestyle factors) even after symptoms have been reduced or have disappeared. Your dermatologist will make a recommendation based on your particular situation.

    Controlling Flushing and Blushing

It is important to control the flushing %26amp; blushing aspects of Rosacea to help prevent the Rosacea from becoming worse. This can be accomplished through various forms of treatment described below as well through lifestyle adjustments.

    Treatments Taken Orally

Oral antibiotics used in rosacea treatment are tetracycline; Minocin庐/minocycline; erythromicin

An alternative is a medication which is similar to Vitamin A called Isotretinoin (sold under the brand names of Accutane or Roaccutane) that is sometimes effective against severe papopustular rosacea. According to the Rosacea FAQ (see below) It works by inhibiting sebaceous gland function and physically shrinking the glands and, since it has potent anti-inflammatory properties, it is ideal to treat resistant rosacea. [Note that Isotretinoin is not to be taken by women who are, or may become pregnant due to the risk of birth defects.]

    Topical Treatments

Metronidazole - In 1989 metronidazole was approved as the first topical treatment specifically for rosacea. It can help to reduce rosacea flare-ups once the rosacea is brought under control. In North America Metronidazole is sold under various brand names including Metrogel (and Metrolotion %26amp; Metrocream, all 3 contain .75% metronidazole and are manufacturered by Galderma Laboratories, Inc.) and Noritate (1% metronidazole cream). In Australia and New Zealand the equivalent of Metrogel is called Rozex. Metrocream, Metrolotion and Noritate are not available in Australia.

Rosacea-LTD III鈩? - The company's website says that almost all users of Rosacea-LTD III notice a substantial change within 40 days. The product contains zinc oxide, manganesium sterate, sodium chloride, iron oxide, polyethylene glycol, and sulfur. It may be ordered directly from the website.

Azelaic Acid, a treatment sometimes used for acne, has been shown to be effective in treating papules %26amp; pustules

The standard antibiotic creams for rosacea are very effective either orally ( a tetracycline) or topically ( metronidazole).

The do not however ';cure'; the conditon - so prolonged treatment may be needed.

If you have not yet had oral antibiotics then ask your Dr for a prescription.

If that fails to work then you need to consider that the diagnosis is not correct - ask for a second opinion or for a referral to a dermatologist.

In my experience, there really isn't one. I have found a good face wash and a nice, light sunscreen (Aveeno Ultra Calming) that helps some, but all in all, best thing is to avoid the sun and eat right.

I got 3 compliments on my face...... I hope I helped.

I only get the IPL treatments to get rid of the broken blood vessels that result from rosacea. Granted, my case is somewhat mild (redness only). Now I do get GENTLE microdermabrasions on a fairly regular basis; while not a good idea for full-blown rosacea, I find it does help with the redness and I love how my skin feels afterwards. I am male, so I can't answer the makeup question, but wouldn't think you would want to apply any for a day or so afterwards. My esthetician puts on a good moisturizer afterwards, and says the skin more readily absorbs it at that point. I also am told to avoid sun exposure for a day or so afterwards (even more than normal).

The place I go also offers rosacea facials, which I get a few times a year; a little slice of heaven right there.

Before I opine any more, I would like to ask a few questions of you, if you don't mind:

I think you should try a systemic approach before treating rosacea with a laser. I had rosacea and cured it through good nutrition and avoiding all foods that contain refined sugar. Daily supplements of chromium picolinate also helped. And crushed raw garlic added to food after it is cooked. The idea is to get your blood sugar stabilized at a low level, so that the bacteria which cause rosacea cannot thrive in your skin.

It can, yes, but it is typically reserved for very resistant cases of rosacea where other treatments have failed, and the patient has extremely oily skin -- and where rhinophyma is a potential concern.
