Does anyone have a really good treatment? I have tried a bunch of different things, and nothing seems to work, even the gel that my doctor prescribed. I am also looking for some good makeup to use with my red skin. I was using MAC StudioFix, and it worked pretty good, but it was a little too greasy. I just switched to Clinique compact, which I like but it doesn't provide as good of coverage. My redness shows through the makeup. Clinique just came out with a moisterizer line that's supposed to be really good for redness. Has anyone tried this yet? I'll take any tips I can get for my rosacea problem. I hate it!!Need a good treatment for rosacea?
Well, whether or not you got the best medication for rosacea really depends on what your doctor prescribed. One of the most commonly-prescribed medications, MetroGel, is not the most effective. A different medication, Finacea, has been studied to be more effective than MetroGel. MetroGel is an antibiotic, and bacteria are not the causative agent in rosacea. An over-production of certain inflammatory proteins in the skin are the prime suspects for causing rosacea right now, and Finacea seems to control these much better. (You really see good results after about a two to three weeks of use.) A good wash for rosacea is Plexion (also by prescription only), and a topical medication named Nicomide-T can also be effective, in conjunction with Finacea. Nicomide-T is an anti-inflammatory preparation of B-vitamins, zinc, and copper that is normally for acne but also helps reduce redness and sensitivity.
Not much available over-the-counter is effective for rosacea, unfortunately, but combination therapy (using more than only one prescription medication at a time) usually yields much better results than only one. If you return to your physician and request these other treatments, give them a try, and see how they work for you. (Sources below) They certainly helped me a lot. Sea Kelp. Find a lotion with it in it and moisturize twice daily.
